ASCE Newsletter

Much has changed since you saw us last. A new website is just one of the improvements ASCE has made over the past year. Possibly the most notable achievement has been our involvement and success in the 2009 NorthPacific Regional Conference. During conference preparations, we had the pleasure of hosting the ASCE National President, Blaine Leonard, and Region 8 Governer, Dale Nelson, for a Brewhouse dinner during Mr. Leonard's visit in February. At the conference in April, UAA was the only participating school to enter into all of the events offered at the conference, but we did not merely participate. The bridge team proved to be fierce competition for the other schools walking away with the fastest assembly time, and fourth ranking team overall. The canoe team also surprised skeptics by not only bringing a competitive product to the competition, but also, thanks to the crash course in canoe dynamics by ASCE faculty advisor Dr. Quimby, brought home third place in the racing competition. Stop by the display in the Engineering Building to check out these accomplishments. We have high hopes for the club this coming year and will be thrilled to host the conference in 2011. So come sign up and be involved in university history in the making!
